Purpose
The Senior Director, Patient Insights & Behavioral Science is accountable for leveraging behavioral science practices/expertise and patient/investigator clinical trial insights to accelerate development. The Senior Director is accountable for researching and understanding factors that influence global patient/caregiver behaviors and decision processes when assessing care options, including clinical trial participation. Additionally, they are accountable for developing and implementing the global strategy for collecting patient/caregiver/investigator feedback and distilling insights. The Senior Director, Patient Insights & Behavioral Science will then leverage their expertise to inform trial design and influence clinical delivery strategies across the portfolio. They will be accountable for collaborating with other leaders to develop effective education and intervention approaches/programs to support patient clinical trial pathways and amplify clinical trial enrollment and retention efforts. The Senior Director will ensure a culture of quality and inspection readiness and provide leadership to drive critical decisions for the delivery of Lilly assets.

Strategic Leadership & Delivery
- Accountable for developing and implementing a global strategy for the collection of feedback from patients, caregivers and investigators participating in Lilly clinical trials and distilling insights to inform trial design and delivery strategies; this includes working with and influencing leaders across the organization to design and develop processes, tools/technology, metrics/measures, assessment/interpretation guidance, and learning cycles.
- Responsible for collaborating with internal & external geographic leaders to understand the global healthcare environment and pathways people follow to receive care.
- Accountable for researching and understanding what factors influence patient/caregiver behaviors and determining what influences their decision processes when assessing care options; they will, collaborate with Patient Engagement and CDDA leaders to share best practices and influence strategies to amplify the effectiveness of recruitment and retention efforts across the portfolio.
- Accountable for monitoring and assessing external innovation to ensure capabilities remain progressive relative to the industry. Partner with global functional leaders to surface, assess, implement, and oversee new capabilities and associated vendors.
- Accountable for the identification, development, and oversight of third parties who provide services, technologies or and/or data associated with the delivery of global insights, ensuring capabilities are optimized to maximize value.
- Ensure activities are executed in a manner consistent with established guidelines and best practices and in compliance with all appropriate regulations globally.
- Responsible for leading with an agile mindset, driving efficiencies, shared learning, and influencing applicable trial design and delivery strategies across the CDDA.
- Define, develop, and maintain metrics/measures to oversee applicable business processes to optimize the effectiveness of recommendations/decisions.
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize business partner needs, influencing senior leadership decisions leading to process improvements, standardization, or automation of support.
- Demonstrate high learning agility with ability to anticipate and solve for business needs with innovative solutions and self-motivated to achieve high quality results in a fast-paced environment.
- Connect externally with leaders to understand how we can further leverage behavioral science methodology to accelerate recruitment and amplify retention of participants in clinical trials.
Enterprise Leadership
- Identify and drive best practices and shared learning across the Patient Engagement organization, CDDA and broadly in LRL.
- Enable a culture of continuous improvement to drive efficiency through process optimization, data utilization, technology and automation, innovation, people experience and capabilities, and shared learning.
- Accountable for collaborating with functional leaders to understand the patient recruitment and retention capabilities in countries in which we conduct clinical trials; and for leveraging behavioral expertise to influence patient recruitment and retention strategies to optimize portfolio delivery.
- Engage in the global drug development community to ensure external learnings are incorporated into continuous improvement efforts.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor degree plus 8-10 yrs of relevant experience or graduate/higher degree plus 3-5 years of relevant experience in drug development, clinical research experience, and/or marketing, market research, consumer engagement or consumer journey expertise.
Other Information/Additional Preferences:
- Post-graduate degree preferred in a scientific, behavioral sciences, market research, consumer behavior, or health related field, e.g., Pharm D, M.S., M.B.A. or Ph.D.
- Prior publications related to the impact of behavioral science on clinical trials
- Strong interpersonal and excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills
- Prior experience managing complex/cross-functional projects and results-oriented experience
- Demonstrated ability to influence team members and experience leading individuals through transformational change
- Prior project management experience and/or experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
- Demonstrated ability to take strategic knowledge and effectively influence the direction of daily operations
- Strong knowledge of quality systems
- Deliver strong customer experiences
- Minimal travel required (10-25%)
